Personal History:
There are only 9 men named "L Holmes" of a possible age named on the 1911 Census, living in Derbyshire, but only one lived in the Buxton area and he was born in 1905! Neither, did anyone with those initials die in the Buxton area around the time of the building of the Buxton War Memorial.

"L. HOLMES" is commemorated on the Buxton Lime Industries Memorial, so must have worked there, but there are no possible lime workers on the Census.

Military History:
There are no obvious records on the CWGC or SDGW Databases. The CWGC identifies 9 "Privates" with the single initial "L" who were killed in the Great War, none of which match up with the 'Buxton' area, in terms of parents' and/or wife's names.

The SDGW database has 8 "Private Holmes", with the single initial "L", but none listed as "Born", "Enlisted" or "Living" in the Buxton area.
