Personal History:
The 1911 has only one man with the surname "Shaw" and initials "W. B." living anywhere in Derbyshire. William Bernard Shaw (Census RG 14/21208) was a 30 year old "Quarry Foreman", living at Holt Cottage, Matlock, Derbyshire. Lt. William Bernard Shaw, 9th Royal Sussex Regiment, was killed in action on the 12th April 1917, but was only 23 years old at the time, living at "Longstone", Bristol Gardens, Brighton, so is clearly not the same man.

Military History:
Apart from the one shown above, there are no obvious records on the CWGC Database or on SDGW database. Nor does "W. B. Shaw" appear on any other Buxton Memorial to indicate where in the town he might have lived.

Footnote:
· Strangely, there is also a "Private S. B. Shaw" on the Buxton Memorial for which no trace can be found.
