Personal History:
There is a John (Wheildon), born in Smalley, Derbyshire, living at 11 Charles Street, Buxton. He was the stepson of Thomas Blackwell and Elizabeth, née Whieldon. (1901 Census RG 13/3270)

The 1911 Census (RG 14/21234) shows a "John Wheeldon", younger brother of Sam. This was 'John William', born March quarter 1896. However, it seems that this man died in 1927, after the Memorial was built.

Military History:
There are no obvious records on the CWGC Database or on SDGW database. There are eight casualties named "J. Wheeldon" on both databases, four of whom have a second initial, and none have any obvious connection to Buxton.

There are a number of Medal Index Cards bearing a name who could be "J. Wheeldon". Without more information, however, it is not possible to identify with which Regiment he served.

Footnote:
· As well as "J. Wheeldon", there is also a "G. Wheeldon" on the Buxton Memorial for whom no trace can be found.
